Emergency Landings After Boeing 737 Max Jet Door-Plug Mishaps

Aviation Authorities Investigate

In recent months, two Boeing 737 Max 9 passenger jets have experienced mid-flight incidents involving door plugs, prompting investigations by government safety agencies.

First Incident

On January 5, a commercial Boeing 737 Max 9 lost its door plug during a climb. The incident occurred on a Southwest Airlines flight from Seattle to Los Angeles. The plane landed safely, but passengers reported hearing a loud bang and experiencing cabin decompression.

Second Incident

On March 9, an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max 9 lost its rear door plug in mid-flight. The plane was carrying 160 passengers and crew members. The incident forced the aircraft to make an emergency landing in Abbotsford, British Columbia.

NTSB Investigation

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating both incidents. NTSB Chairman Mark Pegram has said that the agency is focusing on determining the cause of the door-plug failures.

Industry Response

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has ordered inspections of all Boeing 737 Max 9 aircraft. The FAA has also issued a directive requiring airlines to replace the door plugs on all Max 9 jets.
